<div class="Section1"> <p> </p> </div> <p style="text-align: center;">RAPPORTEUR’S REPORT</p> <p style="text-align: center;">In regard to<br />The Departmental Students’ Webinar on“Effect of Covid19 Pandemic on Indian Economy”<br />Date: 26 th July, 2021</p> <p style="text-align: center;">Organised byThe Department of EconomicsNaba Ballygunge Mahavidyalaya</p> <p>The Departmental Students’ Webinar was organized by the Department of Economics on 26 thJuly, 2021 on ““Effect of Covid19 Pandemic on Indian Economy” on virtual platform. Thiswas the first students’ webinar of the college to be held on virtual platform during covid 19pandemic. The webinar started with a welcome address by the Head of the Department Prof.Debi Prasad Lahiri. Prof. Lahiri welcomed the Principal of the college, Dr. Sukamal Datta,Hon’ble Chair person of the webinar Dr. Debashis Mazumdar, the student participants andthe teachers of various departments of the college in the webinar. Prof. Lahiri thanked Dr.Sukamal Datta for being a source of inspiration behind the seminars and webinars and allkind of publications of the department of Economics and requested Dr. Datta to give theinaugural speech. The Principal, Dr. Sukamal Datta addressed the audience present in thewebinar and gave a brief speech on the main theme of the webinar. Dr. Datta then welcomedDr. Debashis Mazumdar, The Professor and Head of the Department of Economics of TheHeritage College, Kolkata to chair the paper presentation session of the webinar. Dr.Debashis Mazumdar is also the Guest Faculty of the Post Graduation Deprtment ofCommerce of our college and he is a well-known writer of various textbooks on Economicsfor B.A., B.com courses.The main paper presentation session by the students of the college began after that. Elevenstudents of B.A. and B.Com courses delivered their well written speech in the webinar.Firstly, Anshu Jha, a student of B.Com (Hons) Semester II delivered her speech on “Effectof Pandemic On The Use Of Digital Devices With Respect To Education in India”. Shestressed upon the growing trend of digitalization of education system- both teaching learningand evaluation. It is the need of the hour as India is facing the 2 nd wave of covid 19 pandemic.She also pointed out that the Government of India is taking several measures to ensure thatthe education system run properly in this “new normal” period.After that the 2 nd speaker of the webinar, Ayesha Khanam of B.A. (Gen) Semester IIdelivered her speech on “Impact of Pandemic on Informal Labour Force in India”. In herspeech she pointed out that the unprecedented lockdown and different unlock phase withrestrictions made the lives of the informal labour force in India miserable. She rightly pointedout that the norms of social distancing and work from home culture are best suited for theformal sector work force. The informal sector workforce has to hit the road for the regularearnings.The 3 rd speaker of the webinar was Debjani Chakraborty , a student of - B.Com (Hons)Semester IV and her topic was “Relevance of Social Security Measures in India During<br />Pandemic”. She focused on social security measures that are necessary for the working classsubjected to loss of jobs and even shelters during pandemic. She mentioned the variousscheme adopted by the Ministry of Labour &amp; Employment for ensuring social security to theunder privileged unorganized sector of India.The 4 th Speaker, Megha Baidya of B.Com (Hons) Semester IV spoke on “Impact of Pandemicon Tourism industry in India”. She pointed out that tourism industry is a growing industryand has the potential to be the engine of growth for Indian economy. But the covid 19pandemic cast a dark shadow on the prospect of this industry also. With the travel restrictionsimposed on domestic tourism and international tourism, this sector facing huge loss both interms of revenue and employment during pandemic and only answer to this grave problem iswidespread vaccination of the masses worldwide.Natasha Biswas, a student of B.A. (Gen) Semester IV was the 5 th speaker of the webinar andher topic was “Effect of Pandemic on Consumer Shopping Behaviour”. She spoke about thechange in consumption pattern of people during the pandemic. The expensive consumergoods are replaced by the bare necessities spontaneously. The consumption basket of anyhousehold consists of eco friendly nutritious immunity boosting food items and spending onmasks, sanitisers etc are on the rise. The Chairperson Dr. Debashis Mazumdar pointed outthat this pandemic period also saw a rise in e commerce business.The 6 th speaker was Roshni Gupta of B.Com (Gen) Semester II and her topic was “Covid 19Pandemic and Digital Education Divide in India”. She talked about the division in theeconomy created by the introduction of digital education in India. Though online mode ofeducation was the only way out in this prolonged period of lockdown and partial lockdown,still it cannot be ignored that this mode of education is not meant for all. The underprivileged, the rural population, the migrant labourers are worst affected in this mode ofeducation.The 7 th speaker of the webinar was Sanju Bar of B.A. (Hons) Semster II. Sanju made hisspeech on “Impact of Pandemic on Manufacturing Industries in India”. Sanju pointed out theeffects of covid 19 pandemic on different manufacturing sectors in India like the telecomindustries, the automobile industries etc. At the end of his speech, Sanju also stated thedifferent financial relief measures taken by the Government of India to overcome thissituation.Shirsha Ghosh, a student of B.Com (Hons) Semester IV was the 8 th speaker of the students’webinar and his topic was “Impact of Covid 19 on Agricultural Marketing in India”. Shirshapointed out when the lockdown was first imposed in India then the Rabi crops were set tocome to the mandis of the country. Due to the closure of the agricultural markets all overIndia during lockdown period, the agricultural marketing saw a huge setback in theirearnings.The 9 th in the row of speakers was Sushmita Das of B.A. (Hons) Semester II and she madeher speech on “Impact of Pandemic on Migrant Workers in India”. She spoke about themiseries of the migrant workers during lockdown and the lack of government initiatives to<br />save them from this situation. She talked about the absence of proper registration mechanismof migrant labourers, absence of social security measures of India.The 10 th speaker of the webinar was Sonia Zarin of B.A. (Hons) Semester IV and she spokeon the issue of “Impact of Pandemic on Indian Film Industry”. Sonia said that the Hindi filmindustry witnessed a massive level of revenue earning in 2019 followed by a nosedive in2020 and 2021 due to the restrictions imposed by GOI during covid 19 pandemic. She rightlypointed out that though the films could be released on OTT platform and still earn someprofit but the positive linkage effects of giant screen releases are completely swept away bythis pandemic.The 11 th speaker was Tasnim Hossain of B.Com (Hons) Semster VI and her topic was“Impact of Covid 19 Pandemic on Indian Agriculture”. She pointed out the the covid 19pandemic and the prolonged period of lockdown had adverse effects on the agriculturalproduction in India which saw a 2.7% decline due to that. The farmers did not get the profitfrom production as they had to sell their products at low prices available on the fields.After listening all the speakers carefully, the Chairperson, Dr. Debashis Mazumdar made hispresentation on the effect6s of covid 19 pandemic on Indian economy. Dr. Mazumdar pointedout that the agricultural sector remained the major contributor to GDP of India in 2020-2021.He said that the United States of America is now in a phase of economic recovery after thepandemic and it happened due to fast and widespread vaccination of the masses. So Indianeconomy could recover from the shock of pandemic and return to the normal track only aftermass vaccination.The students’ webinar ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Md.
