ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

History as a General subject is being taught in this college since the inception(1985).The Honours programme in History has been introduced from the academic session of 2005-2006.
The department organised a state level Seminar on Postmodernism-A critique of Modernism? on 19th December, 2007. Eminent academicians from different universities graced the seminar.
On 18th March, 2014 the department organised a national level seminar on Environmental History of India. Prof. Ranabir Chakravorty of JNU gave the key note address. Prof. Chittabrata Palit,Prof. Mahua Sarkar and many others addressed the seminar.Some of the selected papers presented at the seminar were published in the form of a book, ENVIRONMENTAL HISTORY OF INDIA,with an ISBN:978-81-923645-6-8.The department has organised a webinar on Taliban takeover in Afghanistan: It's regional and international implications on 15th November,2021. Prof. Bimal Sankar Nanda of Charuchandra College and Prof.Aneek Chatterjee of Hoogly Mohsin College graced the webinar as Speakers.
The department organises educational trip to various Museums and historical places on a regular basis and has started to publish an annual Journal AWAKENING from 2023. The department also organises Students&rsquo; Seminar for the 5th Semester Hons. students.
In 2007 and 2016 the department has been assessed by NAAC.
At present four faculties-Dr.Manjari Ray, Sri Satyaranjan Mandal,Dr.Madhuparna Chakraborty, Sri Swarnadeep Sen have been serving the department.
